Spybait in the making

The Spybait continues to evolve, and while there’s still a bit of research and development needed, it’s getting closer to the performance I’ve been aiming for. Over the past few months, I’ve been testing different tweaks and adjustments to refine its action, balance, and responsiveness, and the results are promising.

This lure has been part of my ongoing handmade fishing lures and custom lure projects, where the goal is to create high-quality, effective fishing lures Australia anglers can rely on. From the way it moves on the drop to the action during the retrieve, every little adjustment in design and construction makes a noticeable difference when targeting Bass, Yellow Belly, or other freshwater species.

The Spybait is also a great example of how timber lure making and thoughtful lure design come together to produce a versatile, high-performing  lure. I’ll continue using this blog as a platform to share updates, testing notes, and behind-the-scenes insights into the evolution of this lure and others in my range of handcrafted fishing gear.

Click Click BOOM

This week, I’m excited to roll out just a few of the new Clicking CodMotions, fresh from the workshop and ready to hit the water. These handcrafted fishing lures Australia anglers have been waiting for are designed to deliver exceptional topwater action, especially when targeting Murray Cod in rivers and impoundments.

Each Clicking CodMotion is built with the precision and care I put into all my handmade fishing lures and custom lures. The design focuses on a balanced, responsive action that creates subtle surface disturbance and an enticing click—perfect for triggering strikes from cautious, big Cod hiding in structure or heavy cover.

While only a few are available this week, they represent the culmination of extensive lure design and timber lure making research. I’ll continue using this blog as the main platform to share updates, testing notes, and behind-the-scenes insights into how these handcrafted fishing gear pieces are built and perform in real-world conditions.

If you’re chasing Murray Cod this season, the Clicking CodMotion is definitely one to try.

Natures Own

A few years ago, I was inspired by a simple foam-back eddy (as shown in the top photo) and it sparked a design concept that has stayed with me ever since. This idea is now being brought back into focus with Nutterjucks, a range of handmade fishing lures designed to capture the essence of where the soul of fishing truly lives, right there in nature itself.

By drawing inspiration from natural water features and the environments where Bass, Yellow Belly, and other freshwater species thrive, the latest custom lures are crafted to move, float, and behave in a way that feels completely natural. This approach to timber lure making combines observation, design, and practicality to produce fishing lures Australia anglers can rely on.

The beauty of this process is that every lure carries a connection to the water it’s designed for, reflecting movement, color, and behavior found in natural habitats. By taking it “back to where the soul is,” Nutterjucks continues the tradition of creating handcrafted fishing gear that not only performs on the water but also respects and celebrates the environment in which it’s used.

As I restart this blog as my platform to communicate with customers, I’ll be sharing more stories, design inspiration, behind-the-scenes build updates, and insights into my lure design process.

Five Oh

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of landing Australian Bass that smash the 50cm trophy mark, and I’ve been lucky enough to see some incredible fish hitting that milestone recently. These “Wild Five Os” are a true testament to the power and fight that Bass deliver when hooked, making them a favourite target for freshwater anglers across Australia.

Using carefully crafted handmade fishing lures and custom lures, these Bass were enticed by designs built for precision, action, and natural presentation. From timber lure making to refined lure design, every element is considered to increase your chances of connecting with big, trophy-class fish. These lures perform beautifully in rivers, lakes, and impoundments, helping anglers chase their own “Wild Five O” moments.

Capturing these Bass is not just about size, it’s about the experience. The explosive strikes, the fight across structure, and the satisfaction of seeing a carefully designed handcrafted fishing lure do its job are what make chasing Bass so rewarding. Sharing these successes here allows me to connect with customers and fellow anglers, providing insights into the fishing lures Australia anglers can trust for serious freshwater action.

As I continue using this blog as a platform to communicate updates, testing notes, and behind-the-scenes design work, you can expect more stories, trophy fish highlights, and tips for getting the most out of your custom Bass lures.

Happy Birthday

I recently had the pleasure of creating a one-off, custom lure for a good mate’s birthday, a project that combined craftsmanship, creativity, and a personal touch. There’s something incredibly rewarding about designing handmade fishing lures specifically for someone, knowing it will bring joy and action on the water.

This unique custom lure was crafted with the same attention to detail and precision that I apply in all my timber lure making projects. From selecting the right materials to refining the action and balance, each step is considered to ensure the lure not only looks great but also performs exceptionally well in rivers, lakes, or stocked impoundments.

Moments like these are why I love sharing my work through this blog. It’s not just about fishing lures Australia anglers can rely on, it’s also about celebrating the personal connections, stories, and experiences that make fishing so special. Cheers to great mates, memorable fishing trips, and, of course, happy birthdays filled with handcrafted fishing gear that’s made to be used and cherished.

2013-14 Wrap

With the end of the 2013–14 fishing season now behind us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the year that was and share some highlights with fellow anglers. The season kicked off in spectacular fashion, with a cracker Bass on the very first night, accompanied by a few “rats” that kept things exciting. Moments like these are what make chasing Australian Bass so addictive, and they serve as a reminder of why quality handmade fishing lures and custom lures can make all the difference on the water.

One memorable aspect of the season was the performance of the Mini Jimma lure. Some skeptics suggested it might be too large for Bass, but the results spoke for themselves, Bass aren’t shy about attacking well-designed fishing lures Australia anglers put in front of them. This highlights the versatility and effectiveness of thoughtfully crafted timber lures and the importance of lure design that balances action, presentation, and size.

Looking back, the 2013–14 season was full of learning opportunities, big catches, and proof that freshwater species like Bass will respond to handcrafted fishing gear when it’s designed with care. As I restart this blog as a platform to connect with customers, I’ll continue sharing season reviews, tips, and insights into the lure making process to help fellow anglers improve their success on the water.

After opening night/week things slowed down. Not on the fish side just on my time to go fishing. This year has seen me time poor due to building a new house (still building) This season I got on the water about once ever two weeks. It was hard to keep track of the Bass as they move in the system.
Still was about to pin a few good fish over the season.

Now who could forget the Bass my son caught this year. At the age of 8 this boy has under his belt Bass guys dream about. These were all caught by him and all by himself. Yep one proud Dad.

Well I have plans to take NJ to another level for next season but for now thats all Im letting on. but yes the plan is for bigger and better things. Going to try something new for the australian lure scene.
Again A BIG thankyou for your support this season and sorry its been a tough one to get lures
Cheers and keep an ear and eye out for things to come.

2014 Codmotions

Back in 2014, the Codmotion underwent an exciting update, giving this popular lure a complete face-lift. One of the standout improvements was the addition of anodised bibs, which not only enhanced durability but also improved its action and overall performance on the water. Alongside this visual and functional upgrade, the introduction of the Clicking Motion took the lure to a whole new level, adding subtle sound and vibration that proved irresistible to Murray Cod.

This update reinforced why handmade fishing lures and custom lures remain such a key part of targeting trophy freshwater species. The careful lure design and attention to timber lure making craftsmanship ensure that each Codmotion performs as intended, creating natural movement and enticing strikes even in challenging conditions.

The Codmotion continues to be a favourite for anglers chasing big Cod in rivers, lakes, and impoundments across Australia. Its combination of handcrafted fishing gear quality, precision, and innovative features makes it a must-have in any serious freshwater tackle collection.

Enjoy experimenting with this updated fishing lure, and stay tuned to this blog for more behind-the-scenes insights, testing updates, and new designs in the world of fishing lures Australia anglers can rely on.
