RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Well the last week and a half has seen me sitting down and waiting. Yep waiting for a drive belt on the bandsaw. As there were none in the country I was lucky to find someone who could get one made for me.
So
We are back in action

Aha Aha, thats the way, Aha Aha, I like it

Yesterday, a strong storm rolled through, bringing with it a heap of rain and a fair bit of wind. While I’m not always a fan of windy conditions, it’s part of the game when chasing Australian Bass, and you learn to take the good with the bad. Even in challenging weather, fishing with quality handmade fishing lures and custom lures can make all the difference in producing results.

By the end of the night, we managed to hook into several solid Bass, including a couple of really good fish that gave a real fight, though, unfortunately, we lost two big girls right at our feet. It was a reminder that, even for experienced anglers, a bit of rust can creep in after some time off the water. Nevertheless, moments like these highlight why persistence, patience, and well-designed fishing lures Australia anglers can rely on are so important.

Despite the missed opportunities, the session was encouraging, and it looks like some very promising fishing is on the horizon. With the right timber lure making techniques and continued refinement in lure design, there are plenty of opportunities for hooking trophy Bass and making up for those lost fish.

This blog will continue to be a platform for sharing fishing experiences, lure updates, and insights into handcrafted fishing gear that helps improve your freshwater success.

3rd Birthday

Well it's been three years since Nutterjuck started back up making lures. WOW how things have moved. At first it was all about Bass Topwater lures. Who would of thought that a oversize Bass lure would turn into the much wanted Codmotion. ThanksMick Haines
The first year had orders coming in thick and fast, it got to the point (where it is now) that I had to stop taking orders and lures became a first in best dressed thing. It's not the best but the best I can do for now.
HP (hand painted ) is what I'm into at the moment as it's fun getting back to using a brush.
This next year, well you will have to wait and see. Should I add another colour to the true and tested black and white ? NOT. Lots are in the pipe line but number one will be getting the new shop (workshop) up and running.
So three years down
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
Cheers

HP = Hand Painted

I’m excited to introduce the new HP Series, a range of lures that takes craftsmanship and attention to detail to the next level. HP stands for Hand Painted, and for this series, I brought out the old-school brush to add carefully considered strokes to each lure. There’s something incredibly satisfying about breaking the painting process down into simple, deliberate steps, ensuring that every detail contributes to the overall performance and aesthetic of the lure.

Even the eyes are a highlight of this series. Each lure features fully hand-painted 3D eyes, with the white highlights enhanced using a touch of UV paint to give that extra realism and sparkle on the water. These subtle details are part of what makes the HP Series stand out as premium handmade fishing lures and a true reflection of quality custom lure craftsmanship.

From the intricate painting to the fine-tuned lure design, every piece in the HP Series embodies the principles of timber lure making and handcrafted fishing gear. These lures are designed not just to catch the eye, but to perform effectively on the water, attracting Bass, Yellow Belly, and other freshwater species with both action and realism.

I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story, showcasing the care, skill, and attention to detail that goes into each hand-painted fishing lure. Stay tuned to this blog for more updates on the HP Series, testing results, and behind-the-scenes insights into the evolution of my fishing lures Australia anglers can trust.

Game On

The 2013–14 Bass season is officially underway, and this year it’s all about chasing Australian Bass once again. Like the past few seasons, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of hitting the water in the first hours of the open season, feeling that anticipation and excitement as the freshwater rivers and impoundments come alive.

The opening morning delivered some fantastic action, with handmade fishing lures and custom lures doing their job beautifully. The early bites set the tone, and as the session continued, the Bass responded to carefully crafted timber lures that balance realistic action with enticing presentation.

To finish off the session, we added a touch of “morning glory,” capturing the peaceful, rewarding moments that make Bass fishing so special. This combination of lure design, patience, and timing demonstrates why quality fishing lures Australia anglers rely on can turn a great morning into a memorable one.

I’ll continue using this blog as a platform to share season highlights, testing updates, and insights into the evolution of my handcrafted fishing gear, ensuring fellow anglers can stay informed on the best techniques and lures for trophy Australian Bass.

Highs and Lows of 12-13 Bass season

It’s that time of year again when we reflect on the Bass season that was, taking stock of the highs, the lows, and everything in between. This season kicked off with an incredible high, one of those moments every Australian Bass angler dreams of. On opening morning, barely minutes into the season, I found myself connected to what many would call the fish of a lifetime—the elusive UNICORN Bass. The excitement was electric. But as is often the case in fishing, great highs are sometimes followed by crushing lows. A simple mishap with the brag mat left the moment unfinished, and it was a tough lesson to swallow.

Despite the setback, I got back on the water and kept searching. After that dramatic opening night, the bite slowed, with only one solid fish coming to hand on most nights. Over the next few weeks, Chris and I fished at least two nights a week, sometimes three, and we were fortunate to land some incredible trophy Australian Bass along the way. These photos capture the highlights of that period, showing the reward for persistence, skill, and using well-crafted handmade fishing lures.

After the first month, fish size started to drop, and the pressure on the local systems intensified. Chris and I had to adapt, exploring new waterways and discovering fresh spots—a game-changer for our approach. With these new locations came new opportunities, and I introduced my young bloke to the world of nighttime Bass fishing. We started with a few daytime trips to get him comfortable, then moved to a night session. I’ll never forget the pride I felt watching him catch his first big Bass on a lure he had made himself—a true highlight of the season.

As the season progressed, we faced the unpredictability of nature. Floods came quickly and went just as fast, and many local systems couldn’t retain the water. While we still found Bass, the numbers were noticeably lower than in previous years. Alongside these challenges, I also tested several new lure prototypes. Many of them caught fish, but some were scrapped as part of the ongoing refinement process in lure design and timber lure making.

Towards the end of the season, conditions shifted once again. A significant flood in May revitalized the waterways, putting Bass back on the move. Chris and I adapted by fishing higher in the system and experimenting with different techniques—fly fishing and using Cod-size lures were particularly successful. These adjustments reminded me why versatility, creativity, and persistence are key in handcrafted fishing gear and why quality custom lures can make all the difference when chasing trophy fish.

Overall, this season was a rollercoaster of highs and lows, lessons learned, and unforgettable moments. It reinforced why carefully crafted fishing lures Australia anglers can rely on are essential for success and why sharing these experiences on this blog is so rewarding.
